Development of rolling mill layout
In the past, the layout of the long products mill was mostly transverse. During this period, great changes have taken place in the steel industry and the form of rolling mills. Up to now, the rolling mills for producing steel rails and large H-beams are mainly arranged in tandem; Most of the universal rolling mills which produce medium H-beam are semi-continuous; Most of the small and wire rod rolling mills are fully continuous type.
Layout of fully continuous wire rod mill
At present, the production line of a fully continuous wire rod mill consists of 28 stands totally.
- 6-stand roughing mills;
- 6-stand intermediate rolling mills;
- 6-stand pre-finishing mills;
- 10-stand high-speed non-twist finishing mills.
This 28-stand wire rod mill layout is the mainstream used in high-speed wire rod production at present. Its maximum rolling speed is between 95~105m/s and its single line output can reach 500,000~600,000 tons/year. In recent years, “8+4” wire rod mills with multiple reducing and sizing mills(RSM) have also appeared. Its finishing mill is changed from 10 stands to 8 stands but, at the same time, 4 stands of reducing and sizing mills are added afterwards. Its maximum rolling speed can be increased to 120m/s (guaranteed speed 112m/s).
